Veteran's Hall

The Senior Center is located in the Veteran's Building in Boonville. The building has a large meeting and dining room, kitchen, office and restrooms. The center is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 4 pm. The center serves as a place for community activities as well as a central gathering place for all residents. The center promotes the health and well-being of senior citizens 60 and over and disabled persons of Anderson Valley by keeping in touch with them. The center provides a central meeting place for senior citizens and disabled persons for a nutrition program, health education and monitoring, information and assistance, transportation and socialization. The center encourages participation in the center's many activities and reaches out to alleviate the problems inherent in aging, such as financial management, health, transportation, property maintenance, isolation and loneliness.

Meals

Lunch is served on Tuesday and Thursday at 12:20 pm. The cost is $4 for seniors and $5 for non-seniors, everyone is welcome. Dinners are also served on special occasions. For menus and special events please see the events page.

Programs

The Nutrition Program provides lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30 to approximately 90 seniors plus meals-on-wheels for the home bound. On the last Tuesday of the month the nutrition meal is served at 6 p. m. Suggested donation for the luncheon is $4 for seniors and $5 for non-seniors. Home delivered meals are available to shut-ins.

The Exercise Program is on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.

The Transportation Program is in service Tuesdays and Thursdays for rides to and from the center's nutrition program lunches. Call before 11 am for a ride. The bus is also available for transportation around the valley for daily errands. On Fridays, the bus makes a trip to Ukiah to facilitate medical appointments, prescription and grocery pick up and banking. Through an Endowment Fund, the bus takes monthly trips to Ukiah to movie matinees and daily errands, provides a volunteer driver program for seniors to get around when the bus is not in service and funds six special excursions trips annually. The Transportation Program is available to all senior citizens and low-income people in need of transportation to Ukiah for medical and other appointments on Fridays as needed. For bus transportation on Tuesday or Thursday please call Dick Sand, 895-3298 or Eva at 895-3609. The senior bus is also on call on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for local shopping and appointments. Reservations for the Friday trip to Ukiah must be made on Thursday to assure space. Special trips are announced and planned at the weekly luncheons. Suggested donation for a ride is .50¢ in the valley and $2 to Ukiah.

Outreach program

The Outreach Program helps seniors with any needs they may have such as home or telephone visiting, shopping for them, household repairs, daily errands and yard work.

Fund-Raisers

The senior center depends on the income from fundraisers. The following fundraising events are planned for 2000: Spaghetti Feed-January 29, St. Patrick's Day Dinner-March 17, Flea Market-Memorial Day Weekend, Southwest Dinner-July ??, Flea Market-Labor Day weekend, Christmas Bazaar-December 4. There is a drawing twice a year for a tropical vacation for two or $1000 cash. The tickets are $10 each with a maximum of 300 tickets to be sold. Health Screening Services

Blood pressures are taken by volunteer firefighters and ambulance personal every first and third Tuesday of each month at 11 a. m., free of charge. Preventive health care appointments are very other month at no charge.

BOD Annual Meeting

The Board of Directors meet on the second Tuesday at the center at 10 am. New board members are voted on the second Tuesday in December.
